Description: I made this video after seeing a number of things: Other disabled people rushing to prove that they were not some thing called "retarded," being referred to here as a "mong" and other such words myself (on and off YouTube) as well as seeing lots of pointless ridicule directed at people with developmental disabilities, and being asked questions about what it's like to be considered "retarded" in casual contacts with people, or to "look retarded", whatever that means. I explore these questions, and the prejudice and dehumanization that surrounds cognitive disability of all sorts, in my video. (Yes, this is a serious video, not poking fun at people.) Apologies for the splicing, the construction noises in the background, etc, that's to do with the equipment I have to work with here at the moment. This video is captioned.

Stop whining you man-lady creature. It's true, you should have been drown at birth. Retarded people are just never going to amount to anything, Accept it. So please shut up with that damn robot voice...

I am a teacher working with non-verbal pre-school aged students with ASD. You have opened my eyes. Please share how you learned to type and any advise you would give to someone trying to teach "neuro-typical" communication to non-verbal kids with ASD. By the way, your videos have been a miraculous tool in helping us Neuro-typicals understand your language. Thank you!

You have a remarkable and beautiful skill--regardless of any kind of perceived disability--for truly and precisely transposing that which you mean to say into that which others need to hear in order to comprehend you. This is something all artists, from poets to musicians, struggle to learn, and while I do not know whether it was made easier or harder by your autism, or was not affected by it at all, you have a rare and stunning gift for it, "le mot juste." Thank you for sharing it with us.

whats wrong with you do you half to talk with that computer cues if you do im so sorry

This is a weird thing to say, but I really connected with how you interacted with the cat. sometimes I feel like i have a completely different connection with animals. i can read their movements, know their reactions to things before it happens, they're almost always clear to me, however, with people, you never know. I dont trust people because of past occurances, but perhaps there is my problem. Thank you for that video Amanda. I appreciate you.

LOL funny stuff

Oh, that's a female. No, I'm not trying to be mean it just surprized me.

Amanda is so talented!!

I refuse to use this word when describing anyonwe who is Autistic because I know that they are not. It would infuriate me beyond words to think that someone would ever say such harsh words about my nephew who has Aspergers.

It's a computer speaking typed words. I'm not (and never have been) diagnosed as "retarded", but I am referred to that way pretty often by just random people, sometimes also by medical professionals who haven't seen me type (a certain ultrasound tech comes to mind, who described my cognitive abilities as "infantile" when dictating results to someone), but as a diagnosis. This video was mostly addressing the way ordinary laypeople use the word, and YouTubers in particular.

Absolutely fantastic video! I thank you so much for sharing your story with the world. It is people like you that are opening people's eyes to social issues that direly need to be addressed.

Really? Wow! I should go inform my therapist and the 2 PhD psychologists who diagnosed me with Aspergers. And while I am at it. I should dig up my ouija board so I can contact the spirit of Dr.Hans Asperger to let him know too.

FYI. Crack cocaine is cocaine hydrochloride in rock form. It's smoked not snorted. Smoking allows for quicker absorption of cocaine into the blood stream. It's generally smoked out of a glass pipe or an improvised pipe made from a metal tube and steel wool. If you can't tell, drugs are a perseveration of mine.

your still an amazing person to me

very very interesting....after watching your videos I know understand everything you said. Keep the videos coming!!

i've seen her on tv last night.....it is messed up what people say about people with retardation....she is a very smart individual who can't talk for some reason....she types words into a keyboard and words come out from speakers...its like microsoft sam only portable.....i have learned lots of things from you...keep doing what you do :D you have confidence and you are very smart....forget what people say..you could care less of what people say..just keep on living life to its fullest :D

I think it is ironic that most of the people who dare insult you can't even spell small words correctly. As far as I am concerned you are more intelligent than they are. You are a brave person and I hope you make many more videos. Being different is a good thing; not something to be made fun of for. You're awesome, Amanda! :)

the construction noise was funny, but the cat walking all over you was my favorite part. wish i could give you a high five man good job!

OsimsO your one sick person, this kid is tryng to say that he has a bigger brain than you have yet he finds simple things harder to learn. but my friend imagine if you one day have a child with "Disability's" or mental "Retardation" and somebody like your self laughs at them or calls the thick, imagien the hurt they go through. that kid just stood up for him self and all you could say was " i just rofled harder than i have ever before". your a sick person you know....

Wow. I never knew that a retarded person could think like that. Did you make this video yourself? You should write a book!

that video is what youtube is about. most amazing video on here.

Nicely done! I'm mildly affected with Asperger Syndrome and I'd probably never be able to stand up like you did! Again, nicely done! :)

Check her description by clicking on her username. She hints at her diagnosis there and links to her blog where she states it openly.

Usually they type in to a computer and the computer reads it aloud, but there are other ways.

She's a girl. Just thought i'd mention that.
